Safe Newborn Sleep
Updated: Sep 21, 2021
There is nothing more important than setting your newborn up in a safe sleep environment... here's how you can achieve that in a few small steps.

Let’s not sugar coat it, having your first baby can be scary! There is so much unknown, perhaps more than at any other time in your life and for those of us who like to plan ahead (like me), the unknown is a scary concept!
Sleep is one of those topics that can seem really overwhelming to first time parents. People scare you into thinking you will never sleep again!
I’m not going to lie- the first few months can feel really long. Up until 12 weeks, bub tends to eat, play, sleep and repeat. Whilst they spend most of their time sleeping, it’s really important that we not only set up a solid foundation of healthy sleep habits, but also that we provide our little ones with a really safe sleep environment.
There are a few things you can do to ensure your little one has a safe sleep environment for day and night time sleep;
1. Put bub to sleep on their back, not on their side or tummy
2. Make sure bub sleeps on a firm, flat mattress in their own cot
3. Make sure there is nothing in the cot with your baby and that their face and head are uncovered
4. Keep baby in a smoke free environment
5. Room share with baby for the first 6-12 months, but do not bed share
6. Breastfeed your baby if you can
Safety is priority number 1 when it comes to newborn sleep.
